HFA-350M/120B “Nadiya-2” High-Frequency Electrosurgical Unit — Model 50РХ
The HFA-350M/120B “Nadiya-2”, model 50РХ is a compact high-frequency electrosurgical unit designed for cutting and coagulating soft tissues and blood vessels. The maximum output power is 50 ± 10 W at an optimum load of 500 ± 50 ohms.
The unit supports two main operating modes: “CUT” and “COAG”. Its design allows the use of monopolar electrodes, a patient return electrode and a compatible bipolar instrument. The required output power level is selected with the control on the front panel, while high-frequency voltage is activated using the foot pedal.
Model 50РХ can be used in microsurgery, neurosurgery, cosmetology, ophthalmology, dentistry and veterinary medicine in accordance with the intended use of the unit, the operator’s qualifications and approved procedural protocols.

Operating Modes
“CUT” mode
In cutting mode, high-frequency current produces local tissue heating near the active electrode. At a sufficient power level, tissue fluid rapidly turns into vapour, resulting in tissue dissection.
“COAG” mode
In coagulation mode, high-frequency current heats the tissue to a temperature at which protein structures coagulate. The modulation frequency of the output HF signal in this mode is 22 ± 2.2 kHz.
Monopolar and Bipolar Operating Principles
Monopolar application
High-frequency voltage is applied to the active electrode and the patient return electrode. The active electrode has a smaller working surface, creating a higher current density and more intensive local tissue heating near the electrode. The patient return electrode completes the current path through the patient’s tissues and must maintain proper contact with the body.
Bipolar application
When a bipolar forceps is used, current flows between the two closely positioned working tips of the instrument. The tissue between them is heated locally, providing coagulation. A compatible bipolar electrode holder and forceps are required for bipolar operation.

Unit Design and Controls
The unit consists of two separate components: the electronic unit and the foot pedal. The electronic unit is housed in a plastic enclosure with front and rear panels.

The front panel contains:
- “МЕРЕЖА” (POWER) illuminated switch — switches the unit on and off. A green indicator illuminates after switch-on.
- “ПОТУЖНІСТЬ” (POWER LEVEL) control — sets the required output power level.
- Blue “ВЧ НАПРУГА” (HF VOLTAGE) indicator — indicates activation of the high-frequency generator.
- “РІЗ / КОАГ” (CUT / COAG) selector — selects cutting or coagulation mode.
- “ПАС” connector — connects the patient return electrode cable.
- “АКТ 1” connector — connects the monopolar electrode holder cable or an epilation needle holder.
- “АКТ 2” connector — connects a cable with an active-electrode holder.
For use with a compatible bipolar instrument, the corresponding electrode holder is connected to the “АКТ 1” and “ПАС” connectors in accordance with the manufacturer’s operating manual.
Rear panel of the electronic unit

The rear panel contains:
- “ПЕДАЛЬ” (PEDAL) connector — connects the foot pedal.
- Power cable — connects the unit to the AC mains supply.
Foot pedal

The foot pedal is designed as a spring-loaded floor platform:
- pressing the pedal activates the high-frequency voltage;
- at the same time, the blue indicator illuminates and an audible signal is generated;
- releasing the pedal stops the high-frequency voltage output.
The foot pedal is connected to the electronic unit by a cable at least 1.5 m long using a plug connector.

Essential Safety Requirements
The unit must only be operated by trained personnel after they have read the operating manual. Do not use defective equipment or a unit that shows any deviation from normal operation.
- during monopolar operation, reliable contact between the patient return electrode and the patient’s body must be ensured;
- the patient must be insulated from metal parts of the operating table or chair;
- electrode cables must be arranged so that they do not touch the patient or other cables;
- active electrodes that are temporarily not in use must be isolated from the patient;
- when performing haemostasis through a surgical instrument, press the pedal only after the active electrode has made contact with the instrument;
- do not keep the pedal pressed after the HF current application has been completed;
- inspection, repair and adjustment of the electronic unit’s technical characteristics must be performed by authorised specialists.
Do not use the unit in the presence of flammable anaesthetic mixtures or under any other conditions prohibited by the manufacturer’s operating manual.
